In the gulf of Kissamos, on the West of Chania, there is a complex of islets of exquisite beauty. Among them, the peninsula of Gramvoussa stands out. A wonderful landscape with a Venetian castle dominating it on one hand, blue and green shallow waters with an astonishing sea bedon the other. Its pride and joy is Balos, a leeward beach with warm waters and white-like-powder sand.
You just have to visit it and see on your own that it is one of the most beautiful Greek regions. Balos lagoon has shallow, warm waters ( ideal for young children ) with a bright turquoise color. The beach of Balos has also a stunning color, as in many places on the beach, the sand is pinkish, due to the countless broken shells.
The magnificent beach of Balos is not easily accessible. The only practical way to get there is by boat from the harbour of Kissamos. Every day, the boat leaves from Kissamos to Balos in the morning and returns early in the evening.
