At Fournes village, between Chania and Omalos is located the Botanical Park & Gardens of Crete... A small piece of the Gardens of Eden on our anyway heavenly island!
The Garden grew from the ashes of a devastating fire that caused unprecedented damage in 2004: sixty thousand olive trees over 400 hundred years old had been burnt not to mention the whole area that was burned almost to the ground.
The park is a unique space for a day’s escape from the city’s noise and the fashionable beaches, a botanical park for trekking, education and recreation. The dramatic scenery here is composed of rare samples of the local flora and fauna, as well as tropical and subtropical species from all over the world and animals, with new samples added daily, changing the look of the Botanical Park and providing visitors with a motive to enjoy it over and over again!
It takes 1-2 hours to go around the whole park and at the end of the tour you could enjoy a delightful meal prepared with ingredients coming from the vegetable garden as well as herbs and fruit coming from the park. Bonus: the breath-taking view of the restaurant!
